Opportunities with the US National Park Service: Col Krumm M4L, spoke
with the Chief of Emergency Services for the US National Park Service
this week. The NPS has quality job opportunities for veterans leaving the service. The National Park Service's Emergency Services Branch routinely
has 150-200 positions open each year across the country due to a lack
of qualified candidates. They see honorably separated veterans as the
ideal candidates to fill those positions. Currently available are
seasonal and full-time law enforcement positions, search and rescue
positions, wildland fire positions, and maintenance positions -- all
well suited for military vets. These are mostly GS-7 through GS-11
positions, except for the maintenance jobs which are wage grade. For
law enforcement, the National Park Service offers training at
    seasonal
academies that are accredited and take the GI Bill. For full-time law
enforcement positions, the Park Service has an academy at the Federal
Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, GA. Their Level 1 law
enforcement positions have the same benefits as FBI, NCIS, and other
government law enforcement positions. As we continue to develop this
relationship with the NPS, we will develop clear procedures on how to
    connect Marines with these opportunities.
