Remembering Our Veterans

Friday, November 07, 2008 15:18 | Daniel Boothe

One out of every four homeless men sleeping in a doorway, alley or box in our cities and rural communities has put on a uniform and served this country, according to the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness.

Government agencies only reach an estimated 25 percent of the 400,000 homeless veterans every year, according to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs. Leaving 300,000 veterans without a place we like to call home.

Personally, I am only 22-years old and don’t have even half the wisdom generations before me have, but if I can recognize this national concern, so can you.

I have always approached problems in my life very logically: Identify the problem, Apply the solution, and Overcome. We have identified the problem and with the Southwest Veterans’ Business Resource Center as a solution to apply, we have nothing left to do but overcome.

We have the resources today to make a difference tomorrow.

We must always remember that freedom isn't free! Anything and everything we do for our Veterans is small reward for the men who put their lives on the line for all of us.

As a society, we often recognize the price men and women in the Armed Forces pay with something as simple as a bumper sticker. We see the need for support, but often don't know how to display that support effectiveley. I am looking forward to this assest now available to our veterans and am hopefully communities everywhere will take advantage of the resources this program offers and encourages.

I hope that those of you who read this can appreciate the men and women that serve this country an you. I served 6yrs. and loved every moment of that experience. Please take advantage of the service you are being offered. It only takes a small amount of your time, but the rewards are huge.
Older people like me would have jumped at the chance to be able to take this training.

DOD Welcome home-small.jpg A welcoming home for our Troops.

Welcoming home our men and women doesn't end after the crowd disperses, it MUST continue on for the life of the Veteran! They've served us, now we will serve them with programs that work so they reintegrate into society.

We are a national public benefit nonprofit organization that educates American Communities about best practices to serve Veterans.  We honor their service by empowering Veterans to apply their training and skills to successfully transition to productive careers and enterprises.

We provide free vocational training 24/7 to all of our members through our website, in addition to local events.  We believe the tenet that American Communities are the ultimate beneficiaries when Veterans claim their benefits and invest in productive endeavors.

The SWVBRC enlists the support of members of local Communities like you to increase Veteran awareness of the value of obtaining a VA card and receiving earned benefits.

Sponsorships, donations, volunteers and support from communities like yours enable us to reach out to Veterans and empower them to transition back into successful, productive enterprises that ultimately benefit all Americans and support future generations.
