Hi, my name is Dawn Byars and I'm married to Staff Sargeant Michael Byars based at Camp Pendelton. I'm 35 years old and 10 months ago I received a life saving heart transplant from UCLA May 28, 2010 I received my new heart from a very loving family, and a 21 yr old girl. This Saturday April 30, I will be walking in the Donate Life Walk/Run 5k in Fullerton, CA to celebrate my donors memory and my new life. My donor family has made contact with me, and I would like to help raise funds for the foundation established in my donors name. Funds will go to provide high school students with scholarships, as well will help victims of violent crimes, and help with medical reasearch in tramatic brain injury. If you would like to help me support my donor family please make out your donation to "The Kyleigh Sousa Foundation" and mail to

    Dawn Byars

    P.O. Box 2334 Oceanside, CA 92051

Anything will help and again, this is a surprise for my donor family. Once I collect all the funds at the end of May I will then forward all the checks on to my donor family, along with a card of thanks and love.

If you would like to see my heart transplant story on KTLA News you may see the link: http://www.ktla.com/videobeta/?watchId=2a415d10-0c16-4b0e-9366-5dd4555af630

Thank you everyone for your love and support in helping  me and my donor family. God Bless!
